Employee Ethics Policy

PURPOSE

The purpose of this Employee Ethics Policy is to establish professional, ethical, legal, and operational standards for all employees, contractors, volunteers, interns, consultants, administrators, and educational support personnel associated with Hope Bridge Academy.

Hope Bridge Academy is committed to providing a safe, respectful, ethical, and supportive educational environment that promotes student growth, safety, dignity, learning, and independence. All personnel are expected to uphold the highest standards of integrity, professionalism, confidentiality, accountability, and student protection.

This policy is designed to align with:

  • Florida Department of Education expectations

  • Step Up for Students scholarship compliance requirements

  • Florida private school standards

  • Mandatory reporting laws

  • FERPA and applicable confidentiality laws

  • Professional ethical standards for educational personnel

PROFESSIONAL CONDUCT EXPECTATIONS

All employees of Hope Bridge Academy are expected to maintain professional conduct at all times while on school property, during school-sponsored activities, during transportation or community outings, while communicating electronically with families or staff, and while publicly representing the school online or in the
community. Employees are expected to maintain honesty, professionalism, integrity, and appropriate professional appearance and behavior at all times. Staff members are required to treat students, families, colleagues, and community members with dignity and respect while supporting a positive, safe, and collaborative educational environment.

 

Employees are expected to maintain appropriate professional boundaries with students and families and refrain from gossip, intimidation, retaliation, harassment, or discriminatory conduct. Employees may not engage in abusive, threatening, humiliating, degrading, dishonest, fraudulent, or unethical behavior. The use of inappropriate or discriminatory language, falsification of records, misuse of school property, retaliation against individuals reporting concerns, or participation in unsafe or unprofessional conduct is strictly prohibited.


All employees are expected to maintain professional conduct at all times while:

  • On school property

  • During school-sponsored activities

  • During transportation or community outings

  • While communicating electronically with families or staff

  • While representing Hope Bridge Academy publicly or online


Employees shall:
 

  • Maintain honesty, professionalism, and integrity

  • Treat all students and families with dignity and respect

  • Use appropriate language and behavior

  • Follow all school policies and procedures

  • Maintain professional appearance and conduct

  • Promote a positive educational environment

  • Maintain professional boundaries with students and families

  • Refrain from gossip, intimidation, retaliation, or harassment

  • Support a collaborative and respectful workplace culture
     

Employees shall not:

  • Engage in abusive, threatening, humiliating, or degrading conduct

  • Use inappropriate or discriminatory language

  • Engage in physical punishment or abusive discipline

  • Use school property or resources unlawfully

  • Falsify records or documentation

  • Engage in dishonest or fraudulent conduct

  • Participate in retaliation against any person reporting concerns

STUDENT SAFETY & SUPERVISION

 

The safety and well-being of students is the highest priority of Hope Bridge Academy. Employees are responsible for maintaining appropriate supervision at all times and ensuring that students remain in safe and supportive environments throughout the school day. Staff members are expected to maintain appropriate supervision during classroom instruction, transitions, transportation, meals, community activities, and all school-sponsored events.

Employees are expected to follow individualized student safety plans, emergency procedures, and crisis protocols while immediately reporting any safety concerns to administration. Staff members may not leave students unattended in unsafe conditions, use unauthorized restraint procedures, engage in physical aggression toward students, ignore threats to student safety, or delay reporting concerns related to abuse, neglect, harassment, bullying, or unsafe conditions.

Employees are responsible for maintaining appropriate supervision at all times.

Employees shall:

  • Maintain line-of-sight supervision when required

  • Follow individualized student safety plans

  • Monitor transitions and movement throughout the campus

  • Follow all emergency procedures and crisis protocols

  • Report safety concerns immediately

  • Maintain safe classroom and community environments

  • Use approved behavioral interventions only

  • Protect students from bullying, harassment, abuse, neglect, or exploitation
     

Employees shall never:

  • Leave students unattended in unsafe conditions

  • Use unauthorized restraint procedures

  • Engage in physical aggression toward students

  • Ignore threats to student safety

  • Delay reporting safety concerns

MANDATORY REPORTING REQUIREMENTS

 

All employees, volunteers, contractors, and agents of Hope Bridge Academy are mandatory reporters. Personnel are legally and ethically required to immediately report:

  • Suspected child abuse

  • Neglect

  • Abandonment

  • Exploitation

  • Unsafe supervision

  • Sexual misconduct

  • Threats of harm

  • Unsafe conditions

  • Professional misconduct affecting students
     

Reports should be made immediately to:

  • School Administration

  • Florida Abuse Hotline, when applicable

  • Appropriate authorities, when required by law

Failure to report suspected abuse or misconduct may result in disciplinary action, termination, and legal consequences.

SIGNS OF ABUSE & NEGLECT

Employees are expected to remain alert to signs of abuse, neglect, abandonment, or exploitation.

Signs of physical abuse may include:

  • Unexplained bruises or burns

  • Frequent injuries

  • Fear of going home

  • Aggression or withdrawal

  • Sudden behavioral changes

Signs of sexual abuse may include:

  • Age-inappropriate sexual knowledge

  • Fear of specific individuals

  • Sudden anxiety or depression

  • Difficulty sitting or walking

  • Inappropriate sexualized behavior

Signs of neglect may include:

  • Poor hygiene

  • Hunger

  • Lack of supervision

  • Chronic fatigue

  • Untreated medical concerns

Employees are required to report concerns even when uncertainty exists.

CONFIDENTIALITY & PRIVACY

 

Employees are required to maintain confidentiality regarding all student, family, staff, and school information.

Confidential information includes:

  • Educational records

  • Behavioral records

  • Medical records

  • Psychological evaluations

  • Family information

  • Financial information

  • Personnel information

  • Incident reports

Employees shall:

  • Comply with FERPA and applicable laws

  • Protect confidential documents and records

  • Avoid discussing confidential matters in public areas

  • Share information only with authorized individuals

Employees shall not:

  • Post confidential information online

  • Share confidential records without authorization

  • Discuss student information inappropriately

PROFESSIONAL BOUNDARIES

 

Employees must maintain appropriate boundaries with students and families.

Employees may not:

  • Engage in inappropriate relationships with students

  • Communicate with students through personal social media accounts

  • Exchange inappropriate gifts or favors

  • Transport students without authorization

  • Share inappropriate personal information

  • Engage in flirtatious, suggestive, or exploitative conduct

All interactions should remain professional, educational, and appropriate.

SOCIAL MEDIA & TECHNOLOGY USE

 

Employees shall use school technology responsibly and ethically.

Employees may not:

  • Post student photographs without authorization

  • Share confidential information electronically

  • Use school devices for illegal or inappropriate purposes

  • Engage in cyberbullying or harassment

School-related communication should remain professional and appropriate.

DRUG, ALCOHOL, & TOBACCO-FREE WORKPLACE

 

Hope Bridge Academy maintains a drug-free, alcohol-free, and safe educational environment.

Employees may not:

  • Report to work under the influence

  • Use illegal substances on school property

  • Possessing alcohol or drugs during school activities

  • Use tobacco or vaping products in prohibited areas

Violations may result in disciplinary action.

HARASSMENT, DISCRIMINATION, & RETALIATION

 

Hope Bridge Academy prohibits:

  • Harassment

  • Sexual harassment

  • Bullying

  • Discrimination

  • Intimidation

  • Retaliation

Employees are expected to maintain a respectful and inclusive environment. All reports of harassment or discrimination will be reviewed promptly.

TRAINING REQUIREMENTS

 

All instructional personnel, educational support employees, contractors, volunteers, and administrators are required to complete annual training related to:

  • Standards of Ethical Conduct

  • Child abuse reporting

  • Emergency procedures

  • Student supervision

  • Confidentiality

  • Crisis prevention and safety

  • School policies and procedures

  • Professional boundaries

Documentation of completed training shall be maintained by the administration.

REPORTING MISCONDUCT

 

Employees are required to report misconduct involving:

  • Instructional personnel

  • Educational support employees

  • Volunteers

  • Contractors

  • Administrators

Examples of misconduct include:

  • Physical aggression

  • Inappropriate language

  • Sexual misconduct

  • Discrimination

  • Neglectful supervision

  • Confidentiality violations

  • Unsafe practices

  • Fraudulent documentation

Reports shall be made to the school administration immediately.

Legally sufficient allegations involving Florida certified educators shall be reported to the Office of Professional Practices Services.

DISCIPLINARY ACTION

 

Violations of this policy may result in:

  • Verbal warning

  • Written warning

  • Retraining

  • Suspension

  • Removal from duties

  • Termination

  • Reporting to regulatory agencies

  • Legal action when appropriate

The school reserves the right to determine appropriate disciplinary action based on the severity of the violation.

POLICY ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

 

All employees shall review and acknowledge receipt of this policy upon hire and annually thereafter.
